This is a second graduate course in solid mechanics. The course builds on elements of thermodynamics, and explores coupled mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical actions. The course draws heavily upon phenomena in soft active materials.

This is the first graduate course on the mechanics of solids.

The mechanics of evolving small structures. Examples include self-assembled quantum dots, monolayer island arrays, and electromigration. The study follows the conceptual flow from atomic processes, to mesoscopic phenomena, and to engineering implications.
